Family: Cucurbit (Cucurbitaceae) Annual.  110 days to maturity (Blue Hubbard Squash) Heirloom squash dating back to at least the year 1859.  Very large squashes that look like beached whales (blue whales).  Sweet golden flesh is fine for pies, baked squash, or soups.  The flesh is thick and may be baked and cut into slabs for the dinner plate.  The rind is a beautiful light turquise color and very hard, making this one of the best of all keepers.  Many folks report still having solid squash in the larder come spring.  We weighed one of our’s in at 41.85 lbs, and that was not the largest one.  Standard squash culture.  Prepare a rich hill and direct seed 5 seeds per hill, then thin to the best 3 seedlings.  Allow the plants to sprangle.  Give them plenty of room–they will extend at least 10 feet in every direction.  If you want to train them to go in one direction, then carefully lift and reorient the runners early, when they are just starting their journey away from the hill. Water deeply twice a week.  Harvest after the first light frost, wash with cold water and sun dry, then put into cool, dry storage.  Another option is to go into a baking frenzy and bake the fruits and then smash the clean flesh into freezer containers and freeze for later use.  A wonderfully filling food. 10 seeds/pkt,  Certified Organically Grown
