A smooth, light blend from Eigashima/White Oak/Akashi made from both malt and grain whiskies. Whiskies in the past decade have appeared under the Whike Oak and Akashi labels, but the Eigashima distillery has a long history with sake and shochu. They recieved a license to distill whisky in 1919 (prior to Yamazaki even being built) but that whisky – and any idea of its quality – is long lost. This blend – dubbed the ‘red’ thanks to its label – is their entry level expression. In regards to the producers having three names, here’s a quick explanation: the Eigashima sake and shochu distillery own the White Oak distillery which sometimes releases its single malts and blends under the Akashi label. The distillery is located in Akashi-shi.
