Family: Legume (Fabaceae) Grows to 5 feet tall. Flowers purple. Nitrogen-fixing field peas with broad leaves. Excellent for forage, hay, or turning under to improve soil tilth and fertility. The tender leaves, flowers and pods are edible. We consume these in salads, tacos, etc. and truly do enjoy them immensely. Forage peas may be sown fall or spring. Plant prefers regular garden soil, sun to part shade and adequate moisture. Strew seeds on a prepared seedbed, rake in and tamp.
